Type species. Coscinasterias muricata Verrill, 1867 View in CoL ( type by monotypy).

Remarks. Coscinasterias includes four species: C. acutispina (Stimpson, 1842) and C. muricata Verrill, 1870 from the Pacific Ocean, C. calamaria ( Gray, 1840) from South Africa and Australia, and C. tenuispina ( Lamarck, 1816) from the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.
