Aetobatus sp.

Plate 7, Figs 28a,b

Material. Two isolated tooth fragments. NHMW 2025/0177/0032 (1).

Description. The tooth fragments at hand (Pl. 7, figs 28a, b) shows the part that represent the V-shape that this tooth originally had.

Discussion. As for the genus Myliobatis , based on isolated tooth fragments, interspecific distinction is not possible ( Hovestadt & Hovestadt-Euler 2013).

Distribution. The genus Aetobatus is known from the IndoWest Pacific, Eastern Pacific, Eastern and Westers Atlantic Oceans ( Last et al. 2016).

Distribution in Portugal. Lower Miocene: (Burdigalian) Lower Tagus Basin ( Serralheiro 1954). Middle Miocene: (Langhian–Serravallian) Lower Tagus Basin ( Fialho 2022). Upper Miocene: (Tortonian), Lower Tagus Basin ( Serralheiro 1954), Algarve Basin, Cacela Fm. (this paper).

Myliobatiformes indet.

Plate 7, Figs 11–27

Material. 111 isolated teeth and tooth fragments. NHMW 2025/0177/0031 (18).

Description. A selection of various isolated and poorly preserved teeth is given here (Pl. 7, figs 11–24) to show the large interspecific variability that is known among this group.

Discussion. Both for lateral teeth (Pl. 7, figs 25–26) and tail spines (Pl. 7, fig. 27) interspecific distinction is not possible ( Hovestadt & Hovestadt-Euler 2013).

Distribution in Portugal. Lower Miocene: (Burdigalian) Lower Tagus Basin ( Serralheiro 1954). Middle Miocene: (Langhian–Serravallian) Lower Tagus Basin (Serralheiro 1956; Fialho 2022), Algarve Basin, LagosPortimão Fm., Portugal ( Antunes et al. 1981). Upper Miocene: (Tortonian) Lower Tagus Basin (Serralheiro 1956), Algarve Basin, Cacela Fm. (this paper), (Messinian) Alvalade Basin ( Balbino 1995).
