Allamanda violacea Gardner & Fielding (1844: 41) . Type:— BRAZIL. Piauí: Bôa Esperança , February 1839, Gardner 2230 (holotype, BM!; isotypes GH, K! [2 sheets]).
Distribution: — Native to NE Brazil, cultivated in Colombia.
Observations:— Allamanda blanchetii can be distinguished by its lilac or purple corollas and sessile leaves. Although it is cultivated everywhere in the country, few herbarium collections are known.
Representative specimens examined:— COLOMBIA. Bolivar: Cartagena, November 2002 (fl), Morales 17103 ( HUA!, INB!) .
