Material examined. Holotype, ♂: [ BRAZIL] Chapada / April / Type No. 29505, U.S.N.M. / Alebra dorsalis Gill. / USNMENT01513124
Diagnosis. A. dorsalis can be distinguished from other species in the genus by the combination of its color pattern (ground color yellow; pronotum, mesonotum, and medial half of forewing at rest dark brown), and characters of the male genitalia.
Male. Pygofer with pair of bladelike processes arising from dorsal margin and extending to near middle of pygofer height. Style apophysis long and lacking a distinct preapical lateral lobe and apex foot-like with sharp preapical medial point. Aedeagus with two pairs of apical processes; apical pair slender and directed caudolaterally and the preapical pair longer, wider, falcate, and directed anterodorsally.
Notes. In his revision of the Neotropical Deltocephalinae, Linnavuori (1959) did not observe the type specimen, and listed the species as incertae sedis, noting Young’s (1952) placement “near Atanus ”. Except for a drawing of the forewing by Gillette (1898), this species has not previously been illustrated. The male genitalia are described here for the first time, and the placement of the species in Atanus is confirmed. “Chapada” on the label refers to Chapada dos Guimarães (see Camisão et al., 2024) in Mato Grosso State.
