Remarks: This species was described from the California coast of the Pacific Ocean and later confirmed at a second California locality. A recent report from the Black Sea ( Kharkevych 2013b), in our opinion, requires confirmation as early development stages and adults of Batillipes species are very similar and a large intraspecific variability has also been observed in this genus (e.g. caudal structures ( McKirdy 1975) and caudal structures and body size (Kristensen 1978a)). It has been found in sand ( 0–60 cm deep) in the intertidal zone.
