Type data: This species was described from a single male collected by Schulthess (probably the Swiss medical and entomologist Anton von Schulthess-Rechberg (1855‒1941)) in Jundiaí, southeastern Brazil. The holotype is housed at ZMB and it has the following data label: Brasil Jundiahy 1899 [printed]\ Centris scopipes Fr. ♂ [handwritten] 1910 Friese det. [printed]\ Coll. Friese [printed] ( ZMB) .
Type locality: Brazil: São Paulo state: Jundiaí (“Jundiahy”) .
Comment: This is one of the most common species of the subgenus C. ( Ptilotopus) with distribution records in the Brazilian states of Distrito Federal, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, and São Paulo ( Moure et al. 2007).
