3) Coenonympha (Lyela) macmahoni ( Swinhoe, 1908) View in CoL
Figs.: 1, 10–12.
Diagnosis: Medium size (forewing length 18.9–20.6 mm, average 19.9 mm); forewing upper side uniformly brown in both sexes but slightly paler in females, apical ocellus well visible, dark brown, with a pale yellowish ring; hindwing above also brown. Under side of forewing brown, with prominent apical ocellus always present, black with a yellowish ring, and white core; hindwing below uniformly brown, without any bands or ocelli.
Range (see fig. 30): Central Afghanistan, and western Pakistan (Baluchistan); recorded at elevations from 1,800 to 3,300 m.
Taxa included: rekai Sakai, 2015; shigekoae Sakai, 2015.
Comments: The status of the two subspecies from Afghanistan named by Sakai based on single or few individuals remains uncertain, as we also could not examine any related material. Based on the genomic data obtained, this species is most closely related to amirica , with which it could be in close contact in part of its range in central Afghanistan, but occurs at lower elevations.
