Banks, N. (1909) Three new ticks from the United States. Proceedings of the Entomological Society of Washington, 10, 170–173.
Type depository: USNTC: syntypes? (a male and females) ( Keirans & Clifford 1984, as “cotypes”)
Type locality: Mountain Home , Idaho and Prescott, Washington, USA
Type host: horse
Current status: a synonym of Dermacentor andersoni ( Keirans & Clifford 1984, Camicas et al. 1998). Comments: Keirans & Clifford (1984) did not specify the developmental stages of “cotypes” held in the USNTC, but Dermacentor modestus was described using a male and female ticks.
