Global distribution: This species has a very wide distribution, from the Mediterranean Sea (W.M. Tattersall 1909; Colosi 1929; Nouvel 1943; Casanova 1968; Madurell & Cartes 2003; Wittmann & Ariani 2010; San Vicente 2017), Atlantic Ocean ( Zimmer 1914), Indian and Atlantic Oceans ( Illig 1930), East Pacific Ocean (W.M. Tattersall 1943), South Atlantic Oceans (O.S. Tattersall 1955), Japan ( Murano 1977), Canary Islands ( Haroun & Sanahuja 2003), western Pacific Ocean ( Lin et al. 2011) and Greece waters ( Koulouri et al. 2016).
