Hoogstraal, H. (1966) Haemaphysalis (Herpetobia) himalaya sp. n. (Ixodoidea: Ixodidae ), a parasite of the Himalayan thar ( Artiodactyla , Caprinae) in northwestern India. Journal of Parasitology, 52, 805–809.

Type depository: ZSH: holotype (male) and a paratype (female)

Type locality: Molta , Uttar Pradesh, India

Type host: Hemitragus jamlahicus jamlahicus

Current status: a synonym of Haemaphysalis sundrai in Guglielmone et al. (2009), but Geevarghese & Mishra (2011) treated both Haemaphysalis himalaya and Haemaphysallis sundrai as valid.
