Type depositories: USNTC?: holotype (male) and paratype (unspecified developmental stage); VLM? holotype (male) and paratypes (males, females and nymphs); BMNH?, CZIICT, IMT, MNHN and SAIMR: paratypes (males, females and nymphs) ( Santos Dias 1958b, Keirans & Clifford 1984, Keirans & Hillyard 2001)

Type locality: Sábiè , Mozambique

Type host: Otolemur crassicaudatus

Current status: a synonym of Haemaphysalis spinulosa in Apanaskevich et al. (2007) but not confirmed in Tomlinson et al. (2018).

Comments: Keirans & Clifford (1984) listed the holotype and a paratype as held in the USNTC , but Santos Dias (1958b) stated that the holotype was deposited in the VLM and he did not list any paratype as having been sent to the USNTC . Keirans & Hillyard (2001) did not find paratypes of Haemaphysalis ethiopica held in the BMNH .
