Type depositories: VLM: holotype (male) but lost ; USNTC: a neotype (male) was designated by Tomlinson et al. (2018)
Type locality: Calgary Farm , Mashonaland Central, Zimbabwe
Type host: Galerella sanguinea
Comments: Kolonin (2009) did not include this species in his list of ixodids of the world, and Tomlinson et al. (2018) cautioned that there have been several misidentifications of Haemaphysalis muhsamae .
