Shrub or small tree up to 3- 5 m with erect branched trunk; ultimate branches articulated. Spikes 1-3 cm; bracts more or less orbicular, slightly cordate. Seeds 0-5-1 mm. Salt-marshes. S.E. Russia, W. Kazakhstan. Rs (E). (5. W. & C. Asia.)
