Amended description: Trees 2–10 m, young branches and buds densely to sparsely ferrugineo-tomentose. Leaves alternate, simple; petiole 1.5–4 cm; pulvinus present at base of petiole, 3–7 mm in length, fleshy; leaf blade glabrous or sparsely ferrugineo-pilose on both adaxial and abaxial surfaces along midvein, obovate to oblong-obovate, 20–55 cm × 7–18 cm, chartaceous to coriaceous, base cuneate, margin entire, sparsely serrate, to serrate, apex acute to acuminate; secondary veins 11–18 on each side of midvein, slightly impressed adaxially, raised abaxially, anastomosing. Inflorescence raceme that matures basipetally, ramiflorous, (20–) 23–40 cm in length; rachis and peduncle sparsely ferrugineo-pilose; peduncle of flower pair 0–2 mm; bract of flower pair lanceolate, ca. 1.5–2 mm. Pedicel sparsely ferrugineo-pilose, 3–6 mm long; receptacle flat, 1–2 mm wide; floral bract lanceolate, ca. 0.6–0.8 mm; perianth tube 4-lobed, 1.7–3.5 cm in length, glabrous or isolated white or ferrugineo-pilose, light green to light yellow, turning white at anthesis; stamen adnate to perianth lobes, anthers dehiscing with longitudinal slit; style 1.4–3.3 cm long with stigma dilated; ovary sessile, glabrous; hypogynous glands 4, sometimes apically retuse, connate into a crenulate cup; stamens adnate to perianth lobes; Fruits erect to oblique, one-seeded, globose to obovoid, 3–4.5 cm × 3–4.5 cm, fleshy indehiscent, basally contracted into a very short stipe, ventral suture present; pericarp 1.5–3.5 mm thick; exocarp covered in brown powder-like cuticle; cotyledons purple to magenta. Flower March to August; fruit September to May the next year.

Distribution and Habitat: China (S. Yunnan, Guangxi), S Myanmar, Thailand, N Vietnam, elevation 400–1900 m. In tropical montane rainforests, damp cloud forests, tea plantations, on the edge of forests, and on roadsides.

Assessment of Conservation Status: LC, with a wide range of distribution and relatively stable populations in Northern Indo-Chinese floristic region by the definition of IUCN. However, it should be noted that the rubber-tea agriculture in tropical areas may pose a threat to the habitat of this species.
