Hemerodromia auremensis sp. nov.
( Figs 12, 16 View FIGURES 11–18 , 19, 20 View FIGURES 19–25 )
Diagnosis. An orange-brownish species, with yellow legs, mesonotum unstriped; abdomen sternites greyish; hypandrium dark yellow, epandrium rhomboid with rounded corners, cercus smooth along the sinuous dorsal edge, basal end narrowed, strongly curved inwards with a small apical seta.
Description. Male. Small orange-brown species, body length 3.0 mm. Head black with usual shape of yellowish mouthparts and antennae. Thorax. All orange-brown; mesonotum without longitudinal stripes; row of 12–14 short, pale dorsocentral setae (dc) from front to end; 1 stronger supra-alar seta; group of approximately 20 small setae along lateral edge between spiracle and supra-alar seta, evenly spaced on anterior part, posterior group in two almost parallel lines. Legs. All legs entirely yellow, except apical tarsal segments [Ta2, Ta3] dark. Fore femur [F1] basally with 2 dark and 3 pale strong setae about as long as femur diameter; ventrally double rows of more than 15 short dark setae; lateral edges with 5–6 pale setae about half-length of diameter of femur. Fore tibia [Ti1] on apical ¾ with double row of strong dark setae, about half-length of diameter of tibia. Wing. Length 2.8 mm, width 0.9 mm. Basal part of medial vein, R 4+5, and subcosta darker and stronger than others; radial fork distal of medial fork. Halter pale.
Abdomen. Tergites 1–7 brown, sternites pale greyish, segment 8 pale; tergite 8 with 12–16 pale setae longer than tergite length. Terminalia. Hypandrium dark yellow, ventral edge curved; phallus slightly bent, broadened at end; epandrium rhomboid with round corners, with elongate, slightly bent inner appendage approaching end of cercus; cercus yellow, more than 2x longer than wide; dorsal edge curved inwards, apical edge semicircular, ventral edge longer than dorsal edge similarly curved, with prolongation curved inwards and bearing short black seta apically; front edge strongly curved inwards from short seta towards dorsal edge; inner surface with group of setae along dorsal edge from front to middle, and 3 groups of micro-setae near front edge, at middle, and on apical part.
Material. HOLOTYPE ♂: Portugal: 25.VIII.2013, Santarém, Ourém, Freixianda, Ribeira do Fárrio e Formigais (Agroal), 39°40'39.4"N, 8°26'19.1"W [slide mounted] GoogleMaps . PARATYPES: Portugal: 2 ♂, collected with holotype [in ethanol], leg. AG GoogleMaps .
Etymology. The new species is named after the region of Ourém where it was found, which in the XII century was known as Aurem.
Remarks. Hemerodromia auremensis sp. nov. is related to H. planti Ivković & Sinclair ( Ivković et al. 2014) . It differs from that in the darker body colour and particularly by the shape of the cercus. The cercus of H. planti has a clear thorn in the distal third along the dorsal edge, not present in the new species; the basal end of the cercus of the new species is curved inward with an apical dark blunt seta not present in H. planti .
Ecological notes. The type locality is situated in the valley of the Nabão River, a small river flowing through limestone terrain. The surrounding slopes are covered with Mediterranean vegetation, including species such as Quercus rotundifolia Lamarck , Quercus faginea Lamarck and Rhamnus alaternus L. Typical riparian trees, such as alders and willows, grow along the riverbank ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1–4 ).
