Glabrous biennial or perennial 15-40 cm. Basal leaves 5-16 cm; segments up to 2- 5 x 1 - 5 cm, 3 or 5, ovate, dentate to pinnatifid; petiole with a long sheath-like base; cauline leaves few, small. Rays 9-20, scabrid on their inner angles. Bracts numerous, entire or 3-fid; bracteoles entire; both appressed at first, deflexed later. Fruit 4-5 mm, oblong. 2« = 22.
