acuticornis (Wulp), 1897: 358 View in CoL ,

pl. 9, fig. 13 (head)

ST: Published as “Several male specimens, Mexico, Northern Sonora (Morrison) .” NHMUK, unnumbered

LT: ♂ (Fisher & Orth 1972b). NHMUK

Paralectotypes: 4♂ 3♀ (Fisher & Orth 1972b). NHMUK

Homeotypes: Many, referred to by Fisher & Orth (1972b) as “other specimens at hand which fit our concept of H. acuticornis .” [Their detailed listing (not including number of males/females) does not specify whether all or only some specimens are homeotypes. The list includes specimens collected 9.I–22.XII in Canada ( British Columbia) and in the United States ( California, Illinois, Kansas, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, and Washington), deposited in ANSP, CUIC, KSBS, MCZC, TAMU, UCRC, and USNM.]

Note: Wulp (1897) described H. acuticornis from specimens labeled “ N Sonora , Mexico, Morrison,” but subsequent studies show that they probably were collected in Arizona, U.S.A. ( Selander & Vaurie 1962; Fisher & Orth 1972b). Specimens have since been collected in localities both north and south of Sonora, so H. acuticornis almost certainly occurs in Sonora.

DIST: GUATEMALA ( Alta Verapaz: Cobán). MEXICO ( Guanajuato: Salvatierra; Veracruz). Also CANADA ( British Columbia) and UNITED STATES ( Arizona, California, Florida, Minnesota, New Mexico, Texas, Utah, Washington). Map: Fisher & Orth 1972b

FIGS: Fisher & Orth 1972b (habitus, head, ♂ terminalia, ♂ genitalia; ♀ sternites)

BIOL: Fisher & Orth 1972b (includes extensive information on flight period and macrohabitats of adults)

IMMATS: Unknown

HOSTS/PREY OF LARVAE: Probably Succinea species, according to Fisher & Orth 1972b
