Taxonomic note. László (2020) synonymised M. dissoluta with M. monofascia based on their identical genital morphology. However, this study demonstrated that the western and central African populations of M. monofascia can be distinguished from the nominotypical taxon found in southeastern Africa by the more brownish tint of their forewing ground colour. In addition to the phenotypical differences, the two populations also exhibit significant genetic divergence. Since the name dissoluta applies to the western African M. monofascia , it has been reinstated from synonymy and classified as a subspecies of the latter taxon: M. monofascia dissoluta stat. rev., stat. n.

Genetic information. Meganola monofascia dissoluta has been assigned the BIN URI: BOLD ABA7515. The intraspecific divergence of COI-5P sequences calculated from 23 samples is in the range of 0.00–1.71% where the specimens from Senegal diverge at the highest rate. Meganola monofascia dissoluta diverges from the nominotypical subspecies by 1.87–2.84%. The PWD between this taxon and the BIN sharing M. perfusca ( Hampson, 1911) is in the range of 0.77–1.39%.

Distribution. Confirmed records of Meganola monofascia dissoluta are known from Nigeria (type locality), DRC and Republic of Congo (as M. septima ), Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, and Ghana (as M. furvitincta ) ( Hacker et al. 2012, Hacker 2014), Cameroon, and Sierra Leone (as M. monofascia ) (László 2020). In this present study, the taxon has been newly recorded from Gabon, Guinea, and Liberia.
