Taxonomy: Chen (1993), Galil (1993), Chen and Sun (2002).

Type: Lectotype ñ RMNH D 38154 and paralectotypes in RMNH (designated by Yamaguchi and Baba 1993; see also Fransen et al. 1997).

Type locality: Japan, locality unspecified.

Distribution: West Pacific: Vietnam, South and East China Seas, Korea, Japan, and New Caledonia ( Galil 1993; Chen and Sun 2002).

Habitat: Subtidal; substrates of fine sand, mud or clay; depths 50 to 260 m ( Chen and Sun 2002).
