Mycale (Carmia) macilenta ( Bowerbank, 1866) View in CoL ( Figure 2 View FIGURE 2 )
Material examined. MMF 35068 / Location: Ponta da Cruz (PC), Madeira island / 5.5‒6 m depth / Date: 4 jul 2001 / Collector: Rosa Pestana.
Remarks. Although three types of anisochelae and two types of sigmas were described in the type specimen, only large anisochelae (31.6‒34‒39.5 x 2‒2 ‒2 µm) and large sigmas (81.5‒81.8‒81.8 x 3.4‒3.4‒3.4 µm) were found in our specimen. Tylostyles’ heads are slightly swollen. Despite the Mycalidae often includes several types of spicules, the extremely encrusting shape of the small specimen collected ( 1 mm thick) conditioned the procedure for OM slides. We also recognize that some spicules should be observed by SME, but that was not possible at the time of preparation and identification.
