Diagnosis

Head yellow; vertex anteriorly with a pale yellowish transversal band. Pronotum yellowish brown with irregularly shaped dark markings. Fore wing only gradate series area to apex with few transversely arranged dots. Hind wing without marking. Male tergum 9 with a triangular or subuliform process, 1.3–1.5 times as long as width in lateral view; gonocoxites 9 with two pairs of tubercles, anterior pair larger than posterior pair, posterior pair subtriangular in lateral view; in ventral view not forming structure; gonocoxites 10 curved approximate right angle. Female sternum 7 with three distinct processes, anterior branch of tergum 9 short and broad, distally concave; in ventral view the anterior angle of gonocoxite 9 subtriangular.

Redescription

Head width 2.5 mm; fore wing length 27.1 mm; hind wing length 22.9 mm.

Head. ( Figure 10C View Figure 10 ) Yellow, vertex convex, hairless. Ocelli distinct, with yellowish-brown setae. Antennae mostly black; scape basally brown; flagellum filiform. Frons yellow. Clypeus yellow, lateral margin with a pair of dark dots, covered with some brown setae; with long setae on the base. Labrum yellow. Mandibles basally brown, distally dark brown. Wings. Ovoid, hyaline, with dense setae. Pterostigma dark brown alternating with pale. Fore wing gradate series area to apex with few dots, distal M with indistinct markings; costal space broad basally, subcostal veinlets basally connected by some short oblique crossveins; RP with 18–19 branches; crossveins among RP branches numerous, irregularly spaced; two distinct gradate series present; CuP with some crossveins; A1 and A2, with pectinate branches and crossveins. Hind wing without marking; subcostal veinlets without interlinked crossvein.

Abdomen. Dark brown, covered with yellowish-brown setae. Male genitalia ( Figure 10D, E View Figure 10 ): Tergum 8 long; scent gland large and ovoid; callus cerci relatively large and ovoid. Tergum 9 with a triangular or subuliform process, 1.3–1.5 times as long as width. Gonocoxites 9 slightly sclerotised distally, with two pairs of tubercles, anterior pair larger than posterior pair, digitiform, posterior pair subtriangular in lateral view; in ventral view not forming structure; gonocoxites 10 ( Figure 14I View Figure 14 ) curved approximate right angle. Ectoproct nearly triangular. Female genitalia ( Figure 10F, G View Figure 10 ): Sternum 7 with three distinct processes; anterior branch of tergum 9 short and broad, distally concave; in ventral view anterior angle of gonocoxite 9 subtriangular. Spermatheca rounded ( Figure 14Q View Figure 14 ).

Remarks

Osmylus zheanus and O. qinlinganus sp. n. appear to be closely related and both species can be easily distinguished from all other species in O. hyalinatus species group by the presence of three processes on female sternum 7. See Remarks of O. qinlinganus sp. n. for the difference between O. zheanus and O. qinlinganus sp. n.
