Etymology. The specific name is a noun in apposition that refers to Igarapé (small river) Puraquequara , a Caxiuanã River tributary.
Diagnosis. Otiothops puraquequara sp. nov. belongs to the O. typicus group, composed of O. typicus ( Mello-Leitão, 1927) , O. inflatus Platnick, 1975 , O. hoeferi Brescovit & Bonaldo, 1993 and O. goloboffi Grismado, 1996 ( Platnick 1975; Brescovit & Bonaldo 1993; Grismado 1996), united by the highly inflated pedipalpal bulb and short, medially inserted embolus. Males of O. puraquequara differ from all species of this group by the medially grooved embolus ( Figs. 6–7 View FIGURES 6 - 11 ). Females resemble those of O. hoeferi (see Brescovit & Bonaldo1993, figs. 9–10) by the large, oval posterior extension of the receptaculum, but differ by the medially enlarged post-epigastric sclerite ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 6 - 11 ) and by the posterior extension of the receptaculum being restricted to the epigastric scutum ( Figs. 9–10 View FIGURES 6 - 11 ).

Coloration as in O. curua sp. nov., except for the pedipalps yellow, endites orange, abdomen with anterior ring-shaped scutum reddish orange, spinnerets orange. Total length 3.80. Carapace 1.70 long, 1.20 wide. Femur I 1.30 long, 0.6 high. Cephalic area strongly elevated. Thoracic groove a deep, V-shaped pit. Eyes as in O. curua sp. nov. Cymbium with prolateral brush of black setae on its distal third.

Eyes as in male. Epigastric scutum with smooth posterior border ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 6 - 11 ). Internal genitalia with two oval median receptacula, separated by half their diameter, not held by shorter pedicel; pore plate elongate and sinuous, with posterior wall of median receptaculum covered with small pores, and with short lateral copulatory ducts; uterus externus flat, forming rectangular plate situated below anteriorly directed, single, globose bursa ( Figs. 9-10 View FIGURES 6 - 11 ).
