Diagnosis. Males differ from those of O. zborowskii in the absence of dorsal and ventral abdominal scute and in the complex embolic apex ( Fig. 93a–f View FIGURE 93 ); females differ from those of O. monteithi in the bigger head of the spermathecae ( Fig. 93h View FIGURE 93 ).
Etymology. The species epithet is in honour of Dr Matt Colloff, Australian National Insect Collection, CSIRO, in recognition of his great contributions to mite taxonomy.
Description holotype male QM S31508 View Materials
Carapace 2.60 long, 1.96 wide. Abdomen 2.88 long, 1.32 wide. Total length 5.6.
Colour: carapace fawn yellow with dark narrow line submarginally and two dark areas on lateral caput, eye region black; legs brownish yellow to orange; abdomen fawn with narrow black band around dorsal shoulder; venter pallid. Carapace: distinctly constricted anteriorly with well defined caput, in lateral profile caput slightly higher. Striae distinct; fovea a long narrow groove. Fine black hairs directed centrally cover surface except margins. Clypeus = one AME diameter. Eyes: all of similar shape, size and colour but PME appear bigger. MOQ clearly longer than wide but narrower behind than in front; group occupies 0.6 of head width. Chelicerae: well developed; fang and furrow short, two close teeth distally on retromargin; three close, outer two smaller on promargin; distal lobe distinct, rounded, with long curved setae; boss small. Maxillae: short subrectangular, serrula long. Labium as long as wide, distally domed. Sternum wide cordate with small intercoxal projections. Pedicel: not heavily sclerotised. Legs: femur IV slightly longer than III; covered with simple setae, white scale hairs on ventral tibia I; scopula, preening combs absent; coxae rounded with small basal processes; tarsi slender, not curved or basally enlarged. Claws: obscured by dense short tuft. Trochanter IV with shallow but distinct notch; shallower on I–III. Trichobothria: two long rows of long filiform evident on tarsi. Spines: well developed but not strong. I: fe pv1p1d3r2; pa 1 apical bristle; ti p2v2.2.2; me v2.2. II: fe pv1p2d3r2; pa 0; ti p2r2v2.2.2; me v2.2. III: fe p3d3r3; pa 1 apical; ti p2d1r2v2.2.2; me p3r3v2.2.2. IV: fe p2d3r3; pa 1 apical; ti p2d1r2v1.2.2; me p3r3v2.2.3. Palp: fe p1d2; pa p1d2 (distal and basal); ti p2d1r1. Abdomen: dorsal scute for half length in most males, weak in holotype; weak ventral scute extends over to booklungs. Tracheal spiracle marked by cone, apically sclerotised. Spinnerets: all short; ALS twice diameter of PLS. Palp: tibia longer than wide without basal flange or tibial apophysis but with three long thick spine-like bristles on single mound on retrodorsal distal corner; cymbium with broad basal margin, retrolaterally with groove and strong short hooked beak like process (directed proximal) and medially extending over bulb in broad lobe; bulb long pyriform with retrodistal invagination; embolic region four pronged; ventral triangular fold with two retrolateral chelate lobes and (embolus) short hooked prodistal lobe with small basal unsclerotised window (median apophysis analogue); sperm duct prolaterally sinuous with basal and subbasal loop.
Allotype Female QM S31527 View Materials . Like ♂ except as follows:
Carapace 3.32 long, 2.48 wide. Abdomen 3.92 long, 2.52 wide. Total length 7.2.
Maxillary serrula long. Prodistal cheliceral lobe rounded distinct, both margins short, with two teeth, basal ventral edge of paturon with band of thorn-like setae. Spines: I: fe pv1p2d3r2; pa 0; ti v2.2.2; me v2.2. II: fe pv1p2d3r3; pa 0; ti p1v2.2.2; me v2.2. III: fe pv1p2d3r3; pa d1 apical ti p2d1r2v2.2.1; me p3r3v2.2.1. IV: fe pv1p2d1.1.2 r2; pa d1 apical ti p2d1r2v2.2.1; me p3r3v2.2.1. Palp: p1d2; pa p1d1.1 (apical and basal) ti p2d2 ta p1r1v1 basal. Legs: patellae I and II with apicodorsal bristles, homologue on III and IV is spine; tibia I and II with three long, slightly overlapping pairs spines not on raised bases, on metatarsi III and IV two pairs long, stronger not overlapping; feathery hairs on femora (I–IV), patellae and tibiae and metatarsi (III and IV); light scopula on tarsi I and II; at least two thick setae centrally on retroface of coxae I–III. Palp: tarsus slightly enlarged subapically, no hair clusters dorsally or near claw, claw normal curved. Scutes: genital plate sclerotised, forming wide ring around anterior abdomen to pedicel; thin triangular dorsal shield anteriorly; tracheal spiracle with short sclerotised edge, no plate. Epigyne: externally two large transverse oval fossae, anteriorly a rounded edge; posteriorly a hooded ridge; fossae pass centrally to two large domed receptacula, folding back to form two divergent lobes from which fertilisation duct arises.
