Phthiarella glarea Brailovsky and Barrera , new species

Diagnosis. This new species is included in the group “ decorata ” by having the femora black with metallic bluish green reflections and basal third dark yellowish orange. Phthiarella glarea sp.nov., is segregate by having the abdominal sterna III–VII with wide dark yellowish orange longitudinal fascia running across midline and pleural margins metallic green; the humeral angles expanded into large acute spine directed outside; the posterior lobe of pronotal disk, scutellum and clavus black; the corium with complete wide yellowish transverse fascia; and connexival segments III–VII and pleural abdominal segments III–VII bicolorous. In P. decorata (Stål) the abdominal sterna III–IV are yellow to yellowish orange and V–VII metallic green; and the humeral angles are thick at base and tapering into short acute spine.
Description. Holotype female. Body length 19.37. Head: length 2.65; width across eyes 2.45; interocular distance 1.35; interocellar distance 0.53; preocular distance 1.50; length antennal segments: I 3.60, II, 4.45, III, 2.95, IV, 6.50; pronotum: total length 2.50; maximum width across humeral angles 6.00; scutellum: length 2.20; width 2.30.
Dorsal coloration. Head metallic green with short yellow spot behind each ocelli; antennal segments I–III black with metallic green reflections, IV dull black; pronotum with collar, calli and anterolateral borders metallic green; anterior lobe with wide yellow transverse fascia not touching the anterolateral borders; posterior lobe black; scutellum black; clavus black with apex of claval commissure yellow; corium black with complete wide yellow transverse fascia touching the apex of claval commissure and reaching the costal border; hemelytral membrane dark brown; connexival segment III–VI bicolorous, black with anterior third dark yellow, VII dark yellow with posterior third black; upper border of connexival segments III–VII metallic green; dorsal abdominal segments III–VI dark yellow, VII dark yellow with posterior margin black, and VIII–IX almost entirely black. Ventral coloration. Head metallic green with short yellow spot at each side of midline near collar; rostral segment I black with metallic green reflections, II–V dark yellow (apex of IV black); pro-, meso-, and metasternum, coxae, trochanters, inner margin of acetabulae and anterior and posterior lobe of metathoracic peritreme dark yellowish orange; femora black with metallic green reflections and basal joint dark yellowish orange; tibiae and tarsi black with metallic green reflections; abdominal sterna III–VII metallic green with wide dark yellowish orange longitudinal stripe running across midline; pleural abdominal margins III-V metallic green with anterior third dark yellowish orange, VI–VII with anterior half dark yellowish orange and posterior half metallic green; genital plates metallic green.
Structure. Head. Rostrum reaching middle third of abdominal sternite IV. Thorax. Humeral angles of pronotum expanded into large acute spine directed outward.
Male. Unknown.
Etymology. From the Latin word “ glarea ” meaning gravel.
