Pseudolacerta De Stefano, 1903
aff. Pseudolacerta sp.
Figure 12 View Fig
Material. One right maxilla ( UM-BFI 3081); and one dentary ( UM-BFI 3100).
Description
Maxilla: UM-BFI 3081 preserves the posterior region of the right maxilla ( Fig. 12a–d View Fig ). Four broad pleurodont teeth are preserved ( Fig. 12a, b View Fig ). Tey are tricuspid, with a large median cusp and two faint mesial and distal accessory cusps ( Fig. 12a, b View Fig ).
Dentary: UM-BFI 3100 is a fragment of a large dentary ( Fig. 12e–f View Fig ). Tree caniniform teeth are preserved
( Fig. 12e, f View Fig ). Tey are broad and slightly curved posteriorly ( Fig. 12e View Fig ).
Attribution and remarks. Both maxilla and dentary resemble elements assigned to Pseudolacerta on the following characters ( Augé, 2005):
(1) anterior teeth large and caniniform
(2) teeth with broad base (vs, slender in other pleurodontans, like Cadurciguana )
(3) its large size (compared to other pleurodontans)
However, both UM-BFI 3081 and UM-BFI 3100 are too poorly preserved to warrant a definite assignment to Pseudolacerta . Tus, we assign both specimens to aff. Pseudolacerta sp. , in order to highlight the strong similarities between the La Bouffie specimens and that genus.
