Trees and shrubs 3–14 m tall; branches glabrous. Leaves 1–2 pairs of pinnae; petiole 1–2 cm, glabrous; nectaries orbicular to patelliform between the pulvinules of each pair of pinnae and leaflets; leaflets 2–3 pairs, 4.5–13 × 2.5–6 cm, ovate to lanceolate, apex acuminate, base cuneate to obtuse, margin plane, concolor, adaxial and abaxial surfaces glabrous, adaxial surface lustrous, venation eucamptodromous. Inflorescence racemose, peduncles 1.5–6 cm, floral axis 2.5–8 cm, glabrescent. Flowers white, yellow or greenish, puberulent; pedicels ca. 0.2 cm; calyx campanulate, 0.2–0.3 cm; corolla infundibuliform, 0.6–0.8 cm; filaments of the staminal tube white; ovary glabrous, ca. 0.1 cm. Pods falcate to recurved. Seeds compressed-obovoid ellipsoid, 0.9–0.95 × 0.65–0.7 × 0.2 cm.

Distribution and Habitat: — Punjuba callejasii is endemic to Colombia where the species occurs in mountainous riverine forests, in the eastern part of the western Colombian Cordillera, at elevations between 1100–2200 m ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ).

Phenology: —Flowering from February to May, in August and December; fruiting from February, March and November.

Notes: — Punjuba callejasii is morphologically related to P. racemiflora and P. centiflora , by the long-racemose inflorescences, with pedicellate flowers (pedicels 0.1–0.7 cm) and leaves with 1–2 pairs of pinnae. The species differs from P. racemiflora by presenting shorter inflorescence peduncles and axis, respectively 1.5–6 cm long and 2.5–8 cm long (vs. peduncles with 5.5–11 cm long and axis 12–20 cm long in P. racemiflora ), and by the flowers with pedicels ca. 0.2 cm long (vs. pedicels 0.5–0.7 cm long in P. racemiflora ). Punjuba callejasii is distinguished from P. centiflora by presenting 2–3 pairs of leaflets per pinnae, leaflets glabrous, petioles 1–2 cm long, and by the flower’s pedicels ca. 0.2 cm long (vs. 4–5 pairs of leaflets per pinnae, adaxial surface of the leaflets puberulent along the central vein, petioles 7–8 cm long, and flower’s pedicels ca. 0.1 cm long in P. centiflora ).

Conservation status: —The species presents an Extent of Occurrence (EOO) of 12,407,172 km ², and a Area of Occupancy (AOO) of 44 km ². The species was assessed as Near Threatened (NT) by Lopez-Gallego & Morales (2020a) by the criteria B1ab (iii, iv), which include a few collections recorded, current population decreasing and occurrence in at least one protected area. Here, we confirm the assession as Near Threatened (NT), according to the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria (2022). Therefore, we reinforce the need for more expeditions in protected areas in order to find possible populations not sampled yet.
