annulata Macquart, 1844: 335 (= 178),
pl. 24, fig. 3 ( Sepedon )
HT: ♂ [ French Guiana] “Cayenne,” “Collection de M. Serville.” OUMNH, No. 1887
Note: Steyskal 1951: 272, wrote, “The only American species of Sepedon which I have been unable to recognize is S. annulata Macquart (1844 [1843], p. 333, pl. 24, Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1–6. 1 ).” Steyskal presented Macquart’s original description and stated, “The mention of “ un point noir sur la face ” makes it very doubtful that this species is a Sepedon .” Adrian Pont, OUMNH, kindly dissected the male terminalia of Macquart’s holotype of Sepedon annulata and sent it to the authors along with photographs of the entire specimen. We then compared the prepared terminalia of the holotype with that of the other species of Sepedonea . The epandrium of the holotype (with the internal genitalic structures intact) is strongly glued by its apex to a paper point bearing the rest of the specimen. The surstyli and apical one-half of the aedeagus and epiphallus are well exposed; the epandrium has not been removed and prepared in KOH or NaOH.
