Synnevrus mekkahensis Schmid-Egger & Al Jahdhami sp. nov.
( Figs 25–32 View FIGURES 25–32 , 34 View FIGURES 33–36 )
Holotype: SAUDI ARABIA ♀ 25.ii.2024 Jazan prov., 3 km N Ayban 17.300 N, 43,056 E, leg. M. Halada ( CSE) GoogleMaps . Paratypes: 2 ♀ same data as holotype ( CSE) GoogleMaps ; 1 ♂ 21.x.2024 Mekkah pr., 13km W Sabt Al Alayah 19.559 N, 41.831 E, leg. M. Halada ( CSE) GoogleMaps
Diagnosis: Synnevrus mekkahensis is characterized by the sharp cross-carina of the clypeus (indistinct in male), which forms a sharp right angle with the lower part of the clypeus. It is rounded in S. barrei and lacks in the other Synnevrus from Arabia. Colour pattern is also unique and distinctive: mesosoma is mostly black with a short median yellow band on the pronotum, T1-2 with yellow band or spots only.
Description of female holotype: Body length: 6.5 mm. Color: Black, dark red are: mandible (except for black apex), basal half of antenna, pronotum, tegula, propodeum laterally, part of legs, S2, T 5–6. Pronotum with short yellow band medially. T1 with lateral yellow spots, widely separated, T2 with continuous narrow yellow band, medially emarginate. Face, mesopleuron and propodeal lateral surface with dense, silver pubescence. Wing venation dark, wings transparent. Morphology: Clypeus in apical forth with conspicuous edge, area under edge at right angle to the basal clypeus surface, shiny, approximately as long as diameter of lateral ocellus. ACM with two medial teeth. Gena in lower half with large carina, and a second smaller continuous carina at inner border of gena and vertex. Keel between antennal insertions V-shaped above. Face, mesoscutum and mesopleuron with coarse, comb-like punctation. Pronotum laterally with obtuse angle as seen in dorsal view. T 1–5 and sterna with macropunctation, punctures approximately 0.5–1.5 diameter, interspaces dull with fine micropunctation. T6 with lateral carina, surface somewhat shiny, with confluent punctation.
Description of male: Body length: 6.0 mm. Agreeing in general aspects and color pattern with female. Differs by the following characters: clypeal cross-carina and space below less developed, barely visible in the dense silver pubescence. Hindtibia apically on outer surface with small yellow spot. T 3–7 partly or all reddish. T6 laterally with spine. T7 laterally with black spine, medially with widely rounded tooth.
Distribution: Jazan and Mekkah province in Saudi Arabia ( Fig. 34 View FIGURES 33–36 ).
Etymology: The species is named after the Saudi Arabian town and province of Mekkah, where one of the paratypes was collected.
