Etymology. The specific epithet ‘atipica’ refers to the absence of longitudinal grooves on scutum, the most striking diagnostic feature of this species within Tricimba .

Morphological diagnosis. Ocellar triangle completely pruinose; gena narrow, yellow; scutum with yellow to light brown pilosity, two longitudinal grooves barely noticeable; apical scutellars not approximated; legs dark yellow; male cercus wider than long in terminal view; distiphallus long; phallapodeme with long bifid apical arms, base bent ventrally.

Molecular diagnosis. 25: T, 28: A, 46: A, 56: T, 58: A, 133: A, 154: T, 197: T, 199: A, 265: T.

Description. Body length 1.33–1.36 mm; wing length 1.5 mm. Male. Colour background brown with grey pruinosity.

Head. Frons dark yellow apically; ocellar triangle black, completely pruinose, reaching half of the frons length; gena narrow, yellow; eye with short and sparse pilosity; postpedicel round, brown; arista dark, with short pubescence; 6 fronto-orbital setae; postocellar setae cruciate. Thorax. Scutum with yellow to light brown pilosity, two longitudinal grooves barely noticeable; pleuron pruinose on the upper half; 1+2 notopleural setae; apical scutellar setae not approximated, about as long as scutellum; one pair of lateral scutellar setae. Wing. First and second wing sectors about the same length; R 4+5 and M 1 subparallel; r-m and dm-m divergent, distant from each other about 2x dm-m length; legs entirely dark yellow; tibial organ brown, short oval, as long as 1/3 of hind tibia. Abdomen. Tergites brown. Epandrium wider than long; surstylus conical, with a row of long setae in the ventral base; male cercus wider than long in terminal view, with a triangular connection between the cerci; pre- and postgonites fused; distiphallus long, over two times the length of basiphallus; phallapodemic sclerite indistinct; phallapodeme with long bifid apical arms, base bent ventrally. Female. Similar to male, with cerci regular, brown with pale pilosity.

Comments. The diagnostic features of T. atipica sp. nov. do not correspond to any described species of Tricimba outlined by Dely-Drascovits (1983), nor Tricimba and Conioscinella Duda, 1929 species in Nartshuk and Andersson (2013). Therefore, it is considered here as a new species. The new species shows overall similarity with T. cincta ( Meigen, 1830) , except for having only one pair of lateral scutellars (three pairs of lateral scutellars in T. cincta ), apical scutellars not approximated (approximated in T. cincta ), scutal longitudinal grooves almost indistinct (three distinct grooves in T. cincta ), and ocellar triangle at least reaching half of the frons length (shorter in T. cincta ). In Nartshuk & Andersson (2013) key to Tricimba species, the couplet 2 (p. 151) is modified to include the new species (see below).
