Type host: Varanus giganteus View in CoL calcarata Neumann, 1902 , Haemaphysalis

Neumann, L.G. (1902) Notas sur les ixodidés. Archives de Parasitologie, 6, 109–128.

Type depository: not stated ( Neumann 1902): syntypes (males and a nymph); BMNH: a syntype (male) ( Keirans & Hillyard 2001), ENV? MNHN? ( Nuttall & Warburton 1915)

Type locality: Balz , Sichi, Ethiopia ( Keirans & Hillyard 2001)

Type host: “petit ecuréuil” ( Neumann 1902)

Comments: Nuttall & Warburton (1915) listed syntypes, named as “types and co-types” (males and females), held in the ENV and MNHN, but Haemaphysalis calcarata was described from five males and a nymph. Therefore, the presence of type males in the ENV and MNHN should be confirmed, and the reference to female types of Haemaphysalis calcarata is most likely an error. The type host is named Xerus sp. in Keirans & Hillyard (2001).
