Perennial, rarely annual. Stock vertical, not or scarcely creeping. Stems 3-15 cm. Leaves and stipules narrow, ovate-lanceolate to lanceolate, and fleshy. Flowers variable in colour. Lateral and lower petals distinctly veined. Spur often twice as long as calycine appendages. 2n = 26. Dunes and dry grassland, usually near the sea. W. Europe and the Baltic region.
