Type material. Lectotype: Nr. 5155, Museo Civico di Storia Naturale di Milano, Piacentino ( Italy), Pliocene, illustrated in Brocchi (1814: pl. 7, fig. 13). Rossi-Ronchetti (1955) and Pinna & Spezia (1976) listed this specimen as holotype, but Pinna & Spezia (1978: 149) referred also to three paratypes (Nr. 5156, 5157, 5158). Therefore, the specimen illustrated by Brocchi (1814) represents a lectotype (by erroneous definition as holotype by Rossi-Ronchetti 1955) and the other specimens are paralectotypes.

Revised description. Large, robust, ovate shell; apical angle ~72°. Protoconch worn, of ~1.5 convex whorls. Teleoconch of up to five weakly convex whorls. Suture moderately incised, shallowly undulating. Early teleoconch whorls weakly convex with broad, slightly concave subsutural ramp, faint mid-whorl angulation, coinciding with P1. Axial sculpture of about ten broad, widely spaced axial ribs. Prominent adis, IP, abis, P1–P6, ADP, MP, ABP of subequal strength; s1–s6 and ms slightly weaker. Spiral cords scabrose. Last whorl with broad, weakly convex subsutural ramp and strongly convex base, strongly constricted below, attaining ~75% of the total height. Up to ten prominent, broad, convex, axial ribs. Fasciole swollen, twisted, delimiting very broad, deep pseudoumbilicus. Aperture ovate, relatively wide; outer lip thickened. Weak ID and prominent D1–D5 placed short distance behind peristome; D6 weaker, bifid. Anal canal weakly incised into thickened adapical tip of aperture; siphonal canal moderately long, fused. Columella broadly excavated, smooth, twisted at siphonal canal. Columellar callus forming broad rim, sharply delimited from base, adherent in parietal area.

Discussion. Ocinebrina imbricata ( Brocchi, 1814) is the Ocinebrina species with the largest shell in the Circum-Mediterranean Neogene and varies considerably in shape and sculpture ( Landau et al. 2007). The herein illustrated Paratethyan specimens do not reach the large size of Pliocene specimens and have slightly lower spires. Due to the limited material, we tentatively place them in O. imbricata . The specimen from Lăpugiu de Sus ( Romania), illustrated by Kovács (2019) differs from the specimens figured herein in its strongly convex spire whorls and coarse spiral sculpture, and is closer to the type of this species.

Distribution in Central Paratethys. Badenian (Middle Miocene): Carpathian Foreland Basin: Rudice ( Czech Republic) (hoc opus); Făget Basin: Coşteiu de Sus, Lăpugiu de Sus ( Romania) ( Kovács 2019).

(Proto-)Mediterranean Sea. Tortonian (Late Miocene): Po Basin: Montegibbio ( Italy) ( Bellardi 1873; Montanaro 1935). Pliocene Spain ( Landau et al. 2007), Italy ( Bellardi 1873; Chirli 2000) (see Landau et al. 2007: 34 for details).

Northeastern Atlantic. Pliocene: Mondego Basin ( Portugal), Guadalquivir Basin ( Spain) ( Landau et al. 2007).
